ICONIC

Sophy Robson does it again.

ASOS approached her to do a 6 page editorial showcasing her flyest creative work inspired by her fav musical icons.

Beyonce, Biggie Smalls, Little Kim (or her nemisis mini-me, Nicki Minaj?...), Gaga, Katy Perry and... I can't quite place the inspiration for the red nails. Background image looks like Amanda Lapore. Could it also possibly be a nod to Robert Palmer's era-defining, 'Simply Irrisitible'??

Not sure, but the results speak for themselves.

Monster.

BOOM.

Literally, just opened the latest Australian Vogue to see a story with a selection of Dior through the ages complete with the accompanying artistic inspiration, and what do I see?......(hint - refer to previous post).

(....and i'm realising my scanner's resolution is mongrel, so the next hint is - it's the manicure!!
'Old Rose', eat your heart out).

It's all in the timing.

For truly quality images and scrutiny of fresh mani work, check out July Australian Vogue.

SO OLD IT'S NEW?

The leaders of nail trend reportage do it again...

Just as I am discovering many treasures digging through my 607 (not even kidding) google alerts, Refinery 29 unearthed these gems from a Cosmopolitan magazine from the 1930's.

So beautiful.

We love! (and by 'we', I mean me. Maybe you too?).

BLUE FOR PUGH

Another 3-month-er, but the image is so fresh, I cannot ignore - AND it's Minx Nails (so it always gets a pass, regardless of how slack I am).

Head Minx ladies collabed with Marian Newman and Gareth Pugh's people to come up with this lunula-bearing concept.

Fresh to death.

V(ERY MASSIVE) GAP

Oh, brother...

I really have been out of it.

Here's what Refinery 29 had to report about another Sophy Robson-created trend... 3 MONTHS AGO!

Soph christened it the 'V-Gap' (hmmm.... 'gap' is so British), and it's a twist on the retro 1920-30's style mani's where they would leave the lunula at the base of the nail exposed, and polish the rest of the nail plate.

Sophy Robson, for me, is the undisputed heavy-weight champ in the nail world. She can do no wrong. Her creations that transform into real trends are beautiful and completely wearable for people that love something a little bit different, yet don't want to stray into looking ridiculous from the wrists down.

Applauded.

FROM THE FUTURE?? WHAT?!?

Clearly, they didn't use 'nano technology' on the image....

You must read for yourself.

Heading of the press release reads - "revolutionary new nail polish FROM THE FUTURE using nano technology". What?

I can really take or leave Zoya polishes. I can't decide if they are serious with this one....

..."beams colour + nail strengthener directly onto nail plate and removes with just a simple scan". What??

..."guaranteed chip free wear for 23 years".

WHAT?!?!?

Go here -  ZOYA 'roswell 2012' press release

Decide for yourself.

ROAD TRIP

Because they really aren't busy enough at the moment, O.P.I. will be releasing a summer range inspired by a road trip taken across the U.S. recently by the company's top exec's.

Due out in August '11, (of course) hilarity will ensue in the naming of these colours. Summer will be gorgeous (given you're in the top hemisphere). Everyone will have a blast.

Delightful.

BAH-NANA'S FOR PRAH-DA

Better late than never (me, not WAH...).

UK nail salon monsters, WAH nails went 'nanas for the S/S '11 Prada pattern.

You've gotta love a dope beauty/fashion cross-over.

Good one on ya, WAH!

CHANEL FALL 2011

Due to being blasted by Cupid's bazooka about a year ago, I've been neglecting pretty much most things in my life for a while, including this blog AND my stan-like devotion to Sophy Robson.

But here I am, and here she is doing some lovely swatches of the Chanel Fall collection for us more unfortunate, unconnected varnish addicts.

You can see from the bottles above, the colours are GRAPHITE, QUARTZ and PERIDOT.

Bravo.

SNAKE-SKINNED ALIVE

These are ACTUAL snake skin.  (is that legal??)

The mani costs US$300.

....You know Minx Nails has a waaaaaay prettier version for around $50?

Hmmmm.

Read the bizarro story here.

FLOWER POWER

Peep Chanel's current summer collection, 'Fleurs d'Ete'.

I glimpsed the yellow last year sometime. At that time it was without name. Not sure if it is 'MIMOSA' or 'L.A. SUNRISE'.

Anyhoo - now that Chanel says so, everyone can get on the yellow bandwagon with confidence.

Get yours.

KEEPING UP WITH THE COLLECTIONS (O.PI., THAT IS)

Polish mammoth O.P.I. - not content with just releasing their seasonal colour collections, riding the summer blockbuster movies and courting (huh-hem, serena...) sports icons and pop superstars alike - are now in talks with reality tv darlings, the Kardashian sisters for their very own range of varnishes.

The officialness of the universe, Twitter (if you read it there....) broadcast Khloe last month alluding to the deal.    stylenews.peoplestylewatch.com

Stay tuned (if you care dare)

DO YOU PEEL IN SUMMER??

Refinery 29 are consistently ontop of all the freshest bits and pieces - like these 2 lovely morsels from Sula's latest 'paint and peel' range.

EASY, OMBRE....

Whoa.

We have a new dope nail trend. The ombre mani.

Take 5 polishes, all in the same colour - just differing shades, from light to dark. Start with the darkest - or the lightest - and work your way one finger at a time from shade to shade incrementally. Repeat on the opposite hand.

I LOVE IT.

So does Lauren Conrad.
